1. Supervises the day to day operation of the laboratory to insure the smooth flow of samples.
2. Assumes technical responsibilities including operating various laboratory and office equipment as necessary in an overload situation or in order to insure production schedules are met.
3. Makes personnel shifts when necessary to accommodate fluctuating work loads.
4. Counsels employees with regard to problems encountered in daily operations.
5. Checks and transfers data as necessary and takes steps to correct possibly inaccurate data prior to continued processing.
6. Conducts planned and/or spontaneous tours of the facility.
7. Maintains telephone communication with various agencies and individuals concerning status of samples.
8. Orients employees as to their responsibilities and the function of the facility.
9. Performs related work as required.
10. Set a standard for behavior and provide models for safety.
11. Provide oversight of laboratory safety conditions and ensure that safety doesn't get lost in day-to-day activities.
12. Communicate to employees and students that protecting everyone's safety is an unchanging value, not a priority that can be compromised by other pressures.
13. Taking every reasonable precaution to protect and promote the health, safety and environment of those persons reporting directly and indirectly to them.
14. Ensuring that persons work in an appropriate manner, and with the equipment, protective devices, measures and procedures required.
15. Advising persons of the existence of potential or actual danger to their health or safety.
16. Fulfilling the requirements of the Health, Safety and Environment Program including training in specific work tasks in areas and operations under their control.
17. Promptly investigating injury/incident reports and taking any appropriate corrective action.
18. Inspecting their area on a regular basis.
